What to Expect During the Experience

Meeting & Departure

Your trip begins at our designated guest house in the Merzouga area. Here, you can safely park your car, leave your heavy luggage, and pack a small overnight bag. The trek departs approximately two hours before sunset to ensure the best lighting and temperatures.

Riding Deeper into the Sahara

You will mount your camel and head straight into the heart of the golden dunes. Because this is a wild camping experience, the ride takes about 1.5 hours, allowing you to travel further away from the village and permanent camps to find true isolation.

Sunset Over Erg Chebbi

We will pause the trek in the middle of the dunes to admire the landscapes. You will have the opportunity to climb a high dune, watch one of the most beautiful sunsets Morocco has to offer, and try sandboarding.

Your Private Wild Camp

Arrive at your specially prepared private tent in a secluded area. You will be welcomed with traditional Moroccan mint tea. Later, a delicious traditional dinner will be served under the stars. Enjoy the tranquil silence of the desert night and marvel at the bright, unpolluted starry sky before going to sleep.

Sunrise & Morning Return

We highly recommend waking up early to witness a spectacular Saharan sunrise over the sand dunes. After enjoying a fresh morning breakfast, you will ride your camels (or take a 4x4 transfer) back to the starting point in the village, concluding your overnight adventure.

Know Before You Book

Why Choose the Overnight Wild Camp?

While standard desert camps are organized in large groups with many tents, our wild camping experience is built specifically for you and your party. It is designed for those who want to experience the authentic majesty of the Sahara as nomads do—surrounded by endless sand, utter silence, and no light pollution. It is highly recommended for couples seeking a romantic night under candle and starlight, or travelers wanting an off-the-beaten-path adventure.

Luggage and 4x4 Options

Luggage: You do not need to carry heavy bags on the camel. We will transport your luggage directly to the wild camp using a 4WD vehicle, so it will be waiting for you in your tent when you arrive. You also have access to a room at our guest house to shower upon your return.

Don’t want to ride a camel? If you or someone in your group prefers not to ride a camel for 1.5 hours, we offer a 4×4 Desert Safari alternative to transport you directly to the secluded wild camp.

What to Bring

  • Comfortable clothes: Long pants for the camel ride.
  • Warm layers: A jacket or sweater is essential as the desert gets surprisingly cold at night, especially from late autumn to early spring.
  • Closed shoes for walking in the sand.
  • Sun protection: Sunglasses, sunscreen, and a scarf.
  • Camera or phone with a power bank (there is no electricity in the wild camp).
