What to Expect During the Activity

Arrival and Briefing

Your adventure starts at our buggy garage on the edge of the Merzouga dunes. You will meet your guide, receive a comprehensive safety briefing, and get fitted with essential gear like a helmet and dust goggles.

Test Drive

Before heading into the steep dunes, you will do a quick test drive on flat, sandy terrain. Because buggies drive like automatic cars (with a steering wheel and pedals), they are very intuitive. This warmup ensures you are entirely comfortable behind the wheel.

Off-Roading in Erg Chebbi

Follow your guide's vehicle into the heart of the Sahara. You will feel the power of the buggy as you climb massive golden dunes, navigate sandy valleys, and race across open desert plains. The roll cage and low center of gravity make the ride incredibly secure yet thrilling.

Panoramic Photo Stop

Halfway through the ride, your guide will lead you to a prominent high dune. You will park the buggies, step out onto the sand, and take stunning photographs of the endless Sahara backdrop before catching your breath.

While quad bikes (ATVs) require you to sit astride a saddle and use handlebars, dune buggies (UTVs) offer a completely different experience. You sit in comfortable bucket seats, use a standard steering wheel, and are protected by a steel roll cage. This makes buggies ideal for couples who want to ride together, parents wanting to take a child as a passenger, or anyone who simply prefers a more car-like driving experience while still getting an intense rush of adrenaline.

Best Time for Buggy Riding

Just like quad biking, the best times to hit the dunes are in the morning (before 10:00 AM) or the late afternoon (after 4:00 PM). The temperatures are much more comfortable, and the lower angle of the sun casts beautiful shadows across the dunes, making it easier to read the terrain and drastically improving your photos.

Is It Safe and Easy to Drive?

Absolutely. Our dune buggies are fully automatic and exceptionally stable. You do not need any prior off-roading experience. The guide will adjust the pace to suit your comfort level, whether you want a smooth, scenic cruise or a heart-pounding race across the sand.

Driver Requirements: Drivers must be at least 18 years old with a valid driver’s license.
Passengers: Passengers of almost any age can safely ride in the passenger seats, securely strapped in with a safety harness.
